My new little gadget

Ok so don't look at the clearness of the pics..just want to show you my lightscoop...this is using my flash but it reflects off a mirror and spreads the light love everywhere...its a cheap way to make flash pictures look much better :). I won't be using this all the time...but I have a lot of moments that don't include beautiful natural light so I thought this was a good alt.

Using a flash can work great given the right circumstances. Bouncing it is always the best option. You where pretty successful in these examples. One thing I would say, would be to pump more light through the flash so that you can stop down a stop or two maybe a f4, this will get not only the eyes in focus but also the nose and maybe the ears.

I will post some examples of different ways to do this similar to yours. Some of the variables that can effect this technique are the room size (distance from flash to wall) the wall color (if its green you will get a green cast or if its red a red cast) the ceiling (height again the distance) and going from a land scape horizontal hold to a vertical hold, as you can imagine now your flash is coming from one side.

I would encourage you to keep playing with it, as the results can be very nice. You might also consider getting a larger separate flash unit, they can be rotated straight up and some even have diffusion, mine is the 540ez I know they make newer models now that probably work even better. I take it with me as back up in shooting situations just in case the light isn't salvageable.

Oh and there are some really great shots in here. I love the one of Loren where the towel is covering part of one eye.
